The NE Region is a part of the old historical region of Moldavia and is made up of six counties (Bacau, Botosani, Iasi, Neamt, Suceava and Vaslui), representing an area of 36.850 km2 and a population of 3.695.831inhabitants (2011), occupying, from this point of view, the first place among the eight regions of the country (16.53% of total population of Romania).
From the surface point of view, the region covers 36.850 kmp – 15,46% of country total surface, the largest counties being Suceava with a total surface of 8.553 km2 and Bacau, with 6.621 km2.
